Sitting Asanas
(Relaxation after each sitting asana is called Sitala Dandasana)
Benefits: Padmasana is used for meditation, prayer, worship and pranayama practice. It develops physical and mental stability, relieves stiffness of joints, constipation, flatulence and knee pain. Removes laziness and helps to attain steady, calm and peaceful state of mind.
Caution: Severe arthritis patients should avoid.
Paschimotanasana Pose
Paschimotanasana- posterior stretching posture
Benefits: Stretches and tones up the entire posterior and frontal abdominal muscles. Slims and trims the body. Liver, pancreas and intestines and gastric fire are activated. Helps to increase height in adolescents. Useful in dyspepsia, constipation, sciatica, seminal weakness, piles, diabetes and digestive disorders.
Caution: B.P, spondilitis and chronic constipation patients should avoid.
Ustasana Pose
Benefits: tones up abdominal viscera, Flexibility of spine, stretches ribs and blood flow to brain increases, good for back aches, breathing problems, arthritis, sciatica, gastric troubles and thyroid problems.
Caution: Heart patients should do carefully and hernia patients should avoid.
Gomukhasana
Benefits: Excellent for induction relaxation, diabetes and removes tiredness, anxiety. Stimulates kidney and gives confidence, relieves back pain, sciatica and general stiffness in the shoulders and the neck.
Ardhamatsyendrasana
Benefits: Removes laziness, twists, tones, stretches the entire spine. Enhances flexibility of the back and maintains the nerves. Massages the spleen, liver, pancreas, intestines and bladder. It’s good for constipation, dyspepsia, diabetes, kidney problems, enlarged and congested spleen and liver, rheumatism of back muscles, pain in hip joints, obesity and gastritis. Increases the pancreatic juice and adrenalin secretions.
Limitations: Hernia patients should avoid.
Baddha Konasana
Benefits: This asana is very beneficial for pregnant women in easy and smooth delivery, gives a good stretch for inner thighs, groins and knees. Stimulate and improve the function of reproductive system, abdominal organs, prostate glands, bladder and kidneys. It helps in curing menstruation problems.
Caution: A person suffering from groin and knee injury should not perform this asana. Use blanket under your thighs for support. Avoid Baddha Konasna in menstruation days. Sciatica patients should not practice this pose or you can use pillows to sit.
